23 weeks

Last Sunday I turned 23 weeks (yay!). I had a couple of appointments this week so I thought I would do a little update.

I mentioned over on Instagram that at 19 weeks baby boy has some cysts on his choroid plexus (a part of his brain).  Turns out he still has those pesky little cysts there but the doctors still remain unconcerned. Since my blood tests for down syndrome and trisomy 18 came back negative and he doesn't have any other markers they aren't a problem. Apparently many babies get them and they go away all on their own. However, obviously we would like them to disappear sooner rather than later. Continued prayers!

Despite that, the doctors are still really pleased with how things are looking in there. The babies are HUGE and baby boy measures 1 pound 9 ounces while baby girl is 1 pound 7 ounces. Apparently that is bigger than many singletons! Lucky me... haha. The boy is in the 100th percentile for weight and sweet girl is in the 90th! I like big babies and I cannot lie...
sweet girl! that is her brothers head she is pushed up against!
Both babies are head down, face up. The likely hood of them flipping around at this point is very slim. The doctor said they would really have to work together to do that. Regardless of their head position I will be delivering in the O.R. with only Matt present just in case they have to do an emergency C section.

So far I have gained about 25 pounds. Insert huge bug eyes here. I've been having a ton of Braxton Hicks contractions but my doctor isn't concerned because they aren't painful or happening more than 3-4 times an hour. He gave me the green light to continue walking (it's good for my giant varicose vein on my left leg) and said to keep doing whatever I am doing. Del Taco for lunch it is! ;)

My belly is measuring the same size as someone who is 30 weeks pregnant with one baby. This freaked me out but again the doctor was happy with it! No stretch marks yet but I'm sure they are lurking right around the corner...

The babies are so sweet and snuggled up together I just can't stop swooning over them. The girl totally looks like Blair did in utero  but the boy is a new breed! Doesn't he look more masculine than her? Their noses are so different!

Over the next few weeks I need to get my diabetes test done, an echo-cardiogram of their hearts (because they are IVF babies), and another anatomy scan. I see my doctor again at 27 weeks then after that I see him every 2 weeks! I can't believe how time is flying by. We are praying that the babies don't come any earlier than 32 weeks (mid July). I am trying to be super flexible with my delivery options because with twins you really can't call the shots. I just want them to be healthy and safe. I would prefer to stay away from a C section but it's ultimately up to them!

Blair is ready for the big sister thing! She practices with her dirty baby all the time and loves kissing my belly. She matter-of-factly told me the other day that I had four butts. Baby boy, Baby girl, my left cheek, and my right cheek. I was like, "Come on! My buns don't count for two yet!" She thinks otherwise...

Have a good weekend, friends!

  2. SO cute! Little man looks like his younger uncle IMO. What's his name again? Jake?? I totally see Blair with baby girl, too! My daughter looks like my mom and brother... It's funny how genes work!

  3. So happy to hear your pregnancy is going well and the babies are looking so big and healthy! My daughter had the same type of cyst and I was so worried about it, but it went away on its own sometime before our 30 week ultrasound. Still, I'll be praying for baby boy and girl!
