Cal's Big Boy Room

Friday, May 17, 2019

Since taking these photos I've made a few adjustments to Cal's room but you get the idea for the most part! I will tell you that designing a little boy's room is not my strong suit but I'm happy with the way it has come together.

Bed: unknown (Blair's old crib)

Bedding: Ballard Design

Leather Pillows: Woven Nook

Dresser: Ikea

Shelves: DIY by Matt

Shelving Brackets: DIY Cartel (on Amazon)

Jute Rug: Rugs USA

Round Rug: Amazon

USA Map: vintage HomeGoods

Curtain: Ikea

Curtain Rod: Amazon (super cheap!)

Bookshelf :Pottery Barn Kids

ABC Poster: Hobby Lobby

Chevron Basket: Target

Geological Poster: Vintage

Trucks Wall Decor: Hobby Lobby

Again, let me know if you would like sources for other items and I will do my best! Most things are reused since this is Blair's old room (same for the girls' shared room) so the items can no longer be purchased but there are lots of similar things still available!

The transition from the twins being in cribs to big kid beds was pretty easy (luckily!). Blair was the same way. We've only had a couple of "falling out of bed instances" and we just added extra blankets that we rolled up under their fitted sheets. Nothing fancy... just blanket burrito because let's be honest... even in winter we aren't putting extra blankets on our beds where we live. ;)

Disneyland Survival Guide

Wednesday, March 28, 2018

Spring Break is so close I can taste it! Many of you might have plans to go to the happiest place on Earth... Disneyland! As an annual passholder I thought I would give you some tips, or things that work for me, while at Disneyland. It can be tough to navigate if you aren't there once a week (covers eyes in embarrassment) so I'm here to answer any questions!

1.Bring snacks: Of course you could eat a corn dog every time you get hungry but that might add up quickly...and your pants might not fit by the end of the day. ;)

2. Never buy clothing there: Because Target, Gap, Old Navy all sell clothing with Disney characters on them. Save some bucks and buy before you go. Better yet, get matching shirts for the whole family so you can spot each other quickly (plus twinning is winning!).

3. Bring an extra cell phone battery: with all the pictures you will be taking and all the Instagram stories you will be adding you will need some extra juice!

4. Take advantage of shows: Shows are typically a win because they don't get as crowded as the rides. I love Mickey's Map, Fantasy Faire, and the Soundsational parade! Oh, and there is a park in Toon Town for active toddlers to get their wiggles out. The twins love it!

5. Rides for adults and babies: You might think you won't enjoy the rides because you will be stuck on the carousel all day. Wrong! Babies can go on Toy Story Mania, Buzz Lightyear, Pirates of the Carribbean, the jungle cruise, Haunted Mansion, Tea cups, and MUCH MORE! Get excited!

6. Bring pjs: We always pack pj's (Mickey ones of course!) and change the kids before putting them in their car seats on the way home. Avoid that carseat-to-bed transfer mishap like that!

7. Bring a massive stroller: Honestly I will probably be bringing a stroller long past the time the twins don't need it anymore. We put so. much. stuff. in there it's embarrassing. Yes, you have to walk and not ride the tram but you will need to burn the extra calories anyway from all the corn dogs you will ingest!

8. Layer clothing: T-shirts are great for the day but it tends to get cold at night!

9. Disneyland wait time app: This allows you to see how long the wait for a ride is without walking all the way over to the ride. win-win-win!

10. Go during the week: If possible go during the week.. it's way less crowded and you will have a much better time!

Hope this helps and feel free to comment with questions!

4th of July Looks for Kids

Thursday, June 22, 2017

The 4th of July is coming up quick! We're looking forward to some cooler weather at the beach where we can eat our bomb pops before they melt! Every year we put on our festive attire and walk in the community parade while sipping our coffee and snackin' on donuts. Not much else makes me happier!

I rounded up some of my favorite holiday looks below if you like to get festive...

white set // suit // gingham dress
romper // suit // pants

popsicle dress // top // suit // shorts // gingham dress // striped dress
Also THIS DRESS! I stumbled across it after I made the collage above. SO cute!

She Works Hard for the Money

Wednesday, May 24, 2017

Did you get an allowance growing up? Or get paid to do chores? As I got older my Mom would let me do certain things around the house and get paid for it. I would ask to do things that were above and beyond general chores like babysitting, cleaning out the fridge or hall closet.

Lately Blair has been asking for ways to earn money. M and I decided that there are certain things we expect her to do because she is a member of our household and with that comes responsibilities. But there are other things that if she does them (without whining) we pay her for. Her chores are:

1. Make her bed
2. Get dressed
3. Clear her dishes throughout the day
4. Put away clean silverware
5. Clean up the twins' toys

I printed out this chore chart and decided that if all these things get done then she gets paid. We keep it on the fridge and she puts stickers on it when she completes a task. For now I remind her to make her bed but the other things she typically remembers to do on her own. We also have been teaching her to give some of her earnings back to God by tithing at the church. I think it is important for her to understand that God has given her the ability to work and earn money so the way that we thank Him for that is by giving to our church. She loves bringing her dollar into Sunday school and slipping it in Noah's Ark. :)

She recently saved up enough money to buy her first toy...Kitty Surprise! How many kitties are there inside? There could be 3, or 4, or 5!. Haha you know you're singing along. While she was at Target making her selection she found a few other items to save for which is great incentive for her. When we got to the cashier she proudly handed over all her one dollar bills. It was pretty cute. She did say, "Ugh. Now I have to save my money allllll over again."

Yup. That's how it works!

Do you guys have anything you do like this? Allowances or chores?

Beach on Repeat

On Mother's Day we went to Newport Beach and I had forgotten how much fun that place is! The stars aligned and we found a killer parking spot. We hung around the pier, at lunch at TK Burgers and enjoyed the sunshine. Aside from trying to eat a burger on the beach while holding a tired baby the day was a win and we plan on going back for more soon! Note to self: don't forget the front pack. Doh!

Disneyland for "big" little kids

Sunday, March 12, 2017

Ah, Disneyland how I have missed you! On Blair's birthday we hauled our crew to the happiest place on earth because we're crazy. We decided to get a three day pass to Disneyland since it was such a good deal and was a much safer bet than an annual pass. Maybe when the twins are two we will consider getting passes again.

We ended up having an absolute blast and I can't wait to go back two more times! The corn dogs were just how I remembered them and I found a new love at Ghiradelli...their chocolate chip cookie was divine!

For the first time Blair rode cars and LOVED it! She also went on Big Thunder Roller Coaster TWICE! Who is this kid? I took a video of her while riding it...priceless.

She fell asleep in the twins' infant car seat/stroller but never stopped gripping her birthday pin. :) It was such a fun day and going to Disneyland with a "big" little kid was so awesome. I just loved showing her new things. Sometimes parenting can be so fun! ;)

Under the Sea Party

Tuesday, March 7, 2017

When I asked Blair what kind of party she wanted she said, "A mermaid, unicorn, fairy party!" All things fantasy for that girl! I told her she could pick one of those and she decided on a mermaid theme. Tiny Prints helped us set the tone for our underwater adventure with scalloped invitations printed on thick shimmery card stock. I added a message inside the envelope as an extra detail. There's just something special about getting an actual invite in the mail versus a digital one. Plus I love keeping an extra one for her baby book.

Honestly this was the easiest party I have ever thrown. Probably because I had friends helping me. ;) It was also the least expensive party I've ever thrown too. Since we only invited a handful of girls this may be why. I ended up using decor I already had or borrowing items from friends. I think the only decor I spent money on was the balloons and helium. Everything else was pieced together from stuff I had lying around from previous parties.

All of my party inspiration came from Jessica over at Garvin and Co. No point in reinventing the wheel! I borrowed the table cloth from a friend and cut the letters out myself. All the food was made by myself and friends. Thanks for swimming by!

Blair's First Haircut

Wednesday, March 1, 2017

Snip snip! Blair finally just got her first haircut! Insert all the mama emotions here. Can you believe she is five (on Saturday) and we just trimmed her hair?! You better believe I saved those precious golden curls for her baby book.

She was definitely apprehensive about getting her hair cut. Once she realized it wasn't going to hurt she settled in to watch a juicy episode of Goldilocks and the Three Bears while my friend, Carrie, worked her magic. Blair got the royal treatment at home because Carrie understands life with twins. ;)

My baby is growing up so fast! And wow her hair looks SO much better now. Thanks again Carrie!
