Design on a Dime

I've really been on the prowl lately for items to fill up the rest of our house. However, I don't want to be in too much of a hurry just to fill my space with things that are just "ok" because I know I'll regret it later. Of course I scoured Pinterest to get some "pinspiration." I ran across several bedrooms that I would love to channel. Each one has things I love about it...

I love the elegant headboard in this room. I like how the dark color makes a statement against the wall. I also love that the nightstands are different. You can tell which side is "hers" and which is "his" by the feminine and masculine furniture.

Again, I like the different nightstands as well as the pretty headboard.

I'm definitely hoping to find a tufted head board such as this one. Again, the darker color really pops against the wall. I like that the head board is also tall enough to see over the pillows.

I'm not really into the frou frou pillows but since I currently have this douvet I thought I would use this picture. There is something I love about a heavily textured all white bed. It just looks so clean to me. I'm also a fan lately of mercury glass like the lamp shown here on the nightstand.

Obviously this is our work-in-progress bedroom. What do you think about a chocolatey arched tufted headboard? The nightstand will eventually get the boot. Or should I stick to a more creamy white head board? Opinions are much appreciated!!!

Lastly, while I was browsing the furniture store Ethan Allen I ran across this set up for a living room. Since mine is currently empty (and the first room you see upon arrival) I thought this would be a great look to mimic for less...

We would opt for a larger couch but I really love this look! I don't want our living room to be too fancy (it's not functional and I feel like that is "out") but I like how the lamps bring a little class to this look. I also like that the two chairs don't match and that the ottomans provide casual seating. Now I just have to find this look for less! And therein lies the challenge...

Yesterday we visited my gramma and B tagged along. But trust me when I say that by the time we returned home at 3pm she was NOT this happy. In fact quite the opposite... She went straight to bed and slept for two hours. Poor lil mama.

This weekend my mama and I are hitting up some more furniture stores to see what's out there. Should be fun! Oh yeah, and Sunday I run THIRTEEN MILES. Prayers are appreciated...

  1. I like your idea of a tufted head board that contrasts with the wall! What about getting a light colored head board and painting the wall behind the head board? You may get more mileage out of a light head board and you can keep changing the wall color easily and rather cheaply? Just a thought. Either way an upholstered head board will look great no matter the color!

  2. Love your inspiration photos, and a tufted headboard will look great! I like the living room at Ethan Allen too, and I blogged about "kid friendly coffee tables" and found some skirted ottomans similar to those here http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Natural-Skirted-Ottomans-Set-of-2/6002325/product.html?cid=209797&fp=F&TRACK=CSEShopzilla&mr:referralID=63c8c57d-2b5a-11e2-b779-001b2166c62d

  3. If you're on a budget, try Just Like the Model in Irvine! I've furnished most of my house with their furniture. They have designer items that have been displayed in model homes, never used. I love it!
