Beach Day in February

Friday, February 12, 2016

Yesterday was seriously one of the best days ever. Nothing extraordinary happened but we ventured down to the beach (well, really the pool at the beach) and it was amazing! My bff tagged along and it's always nice to have two adults versus one preschooler. ;)

Blair was SO excited to go swimming. She said that swimming was better than Disneyland. ;) She was seriously an angel and played in the pool and hot tub for 2.5 hours ON HER OWN. Mommy heaven! I think she asked my friend to get in the hot tub with her once. And hey that's not so bad!
Not usually one for baring it all in my suit but HELLO BUMP! This must be documented!

After the pool we went back to my parent's beach house, ate lunch, and relaxed while Blair napped for two hours (thank you swimming!). When she woke up we went out to dinner at one of my favorite places and then headed home. Best. Day. Ever. :)

10 Weeks

Thursday, February 11, 2016

The winner of the Jamberry Nail decals is posted HERE....go see if it is you!

I had my last ultrasound appointment at my fertility clinic on Monday and it was SO rad...by far the best one yet! I'm sure the bigger the babies get the more amazing the ultrasounds will be. We could see their arms/ legs, spines, hearts, umbilical cords, fingers and toes! They even had little alien faces with eye sockets. It was seriously incredible. Both babies had matching heart rates of 171. They're twinning already. ;)

When I told the ultrasound tech that I couldn't wait to find out the sex she said, "Yeah it's too early but let's look for fun." She picked out one baby and said, "See this right here could be boy parts. But you see this bright spot over here? That could be girl parts. So, basically it's still too early to tell." I figured but hey at least she was nice enough to humor me.

The babies were crazy busy wiggling around in there during the appointment. It's so bizarre how much activity is happening inside and yet I don't think I can feel a thing. I say "think" because sometimes I just swear I feel little things. I know that seems crazy but I can't attribute it to gas all the time! ;)

Baby A measured 10 weeks 6 days and Baby B measured 10 weeks 4 days. By that calculation I'm ahead of schedule and right at 11 weeks now. The OB hasn't changed my due date yet. Time will tell!

Matt's cousin loaned me a doppler to listen to the babies' heart rates in between my now 4 week apart appointments. I tried it out last night and found one of the little guys/girls hearts. Either I'm not skilled enough to find the other one or they are so close together in there it's too hard to differentiate them. Either way it made me pretty happy. I could listen to that all day! It's so crazy because they are so LOW in my stomach. I'm like if you are way down there...then what is this huge belly up here?! Ultrasound tech says it's still from hormones I'm taking...I find that hard to believe!

Last but not least we made an appointment to peek at the gender(s). I'll be 14 weeks the first week of March so my family is coming down to the ultrasound place with us. Fingers crossed those little nuggets cooperate!

Dresser Update

Monday, February 8, 2016

How was everyone's Super Bowl? To be honest I could care less about the game (no surprise there) but I loooooove the food. I'm all about those nachos, jalapeno poppers, and cookies. This year M made home made poppers wrapped in bacon and we watched the game with some friends. It was super low key which is right up my pregnant alley.

With M on the mend we were able to finish the twins' dresser/changing table and paint Blair's new room and her portion of the Jack and Jill bathroom. I'm super happy with the paint and all I want to do now is sit in that room and stare at the walls. :) Next up is adding crown molding and then moving all of Blair's stuff in so we can tackle her old room for the twins.

After

I really love how the dresser turned out. I like the modern twist of the white mixed with the natural look of the wood. I don't think I am going to add pulls (even though I think they are convenient) because it takes away from the clean lines it currently has. Did I mention that this is an original Fisher Price piece of furniture? It has a cute little brass emblem on the top...I'll have to snap a picture of it.

I have my last appointment at my fertility clinic today and from here on out I'll only seen by my OB once a month (wah!). I'm glad I won't have to trek down to the beach anymore but also sad I won't see my beans for such a long time! Bittersweet I say.

Health's Kitchen

Friday, February 5, 2016

I've been hearing a lot about a restaurant in my town called "Health's Kitchen." All the cool, hipster, healthy people go there and I've been wanting to try it out (not that I am any of those things). Yesterday while out running errands I happened to stumble across it and checked it out with Blair.

I ordered a chicken salad sandwich to go and some mac n cheese to go for B. While we waited for our food the server brought her a cup of tangerine juice and some homemade flax seed crackers (which were delicious!)...free!
Poor girl has Daddy's cold. Those eyes!
We played "I spy" for a while..which is another story in itself. Blair basically says, "I spy a glass of orange juice" instead of saying "something orange." She kills me. I've tried explaining her fault but she doesn't seem to care. Oh well.

We also checked out some cool gold fish they had swimming around. Apparently they release carbon dioxide and then that water gets transferred to some plants that take it in and release oxygen back to the fish pond. I know that sounded super legit and scientific. Definitely quote me on your next bio paper.

We got our food to go and the server opened the door for us (chivalry!) and told us he hoped to see us soon. I was nice and shared half my sammy with M when I got home and then Blair shared half her mac n cheese with me. Everything tasted super fresh and delicious...no hormones or antibiotics! I'm for sure going back...maybe even this weekend for breakfast! Nom nom. :)

Have a great weekend friends! And even though I'm ten weeks now here's my late 9 week photo from earlier this week. :)

Jamberry Giveaway

Thursday, February 4, 2016

*The winner is SARA GIVENS!*
Have you guys ever tried Jamberry nail stickers? I used them many years ago but started getting fed up with them because they weren't sticking to my curved nail beds and I just felt like applying them was taking too long. Susan reached out to me and asked me if I would be willing to try them again. She recommended a you tube tutorial that would help with application and sent me an awesome Jamberry package full of goodies to try out!

Having the heater made a huge difference in ease of application. The kit comes with some cuticle oil but I learned the hard way that you can't use it after applying the stickers...they lifted right off. Maybe it's ok to use after a few hours or in between applications.

Blair and I got matching decals and they are SO cute on her little hands! She loves doing girly things with me and since she's been sick I've been letting her relax and watch some TV. This made applying them super easy. ;)

Clearly someone got her Daddy's olive skin.
I love that the decals don't chip...especially for her. I can be careful when I paint my nails but whenever I paint hers they don't last half a day. The designs that Jamberry has to choose from are seriously adorable. I can see myself using these more in the future and I'm sure with more practice I will get faster (and better) at applying them.

Here's the fun part! Susan has offered to give away $50 in Jamberry products to one lucky winner! Enter below for your chance to win! Winner announced early next week.

A Gray Decision

Wednesday, February 3, 2016

The struggle has been real for us picking out the perfect grey. Thank you for all of your suggestions! Our house doesn't get a lot of natural light (boo) so I had to keep that in mind when choosing a color. I couldn't go too dark because I want to keep it airy and light. I spent a small fortune on paint samples but I wanted to get it right! Keep in mind paint looks so different in photos than in person. Here's what I tried...

From left to right: 1. wheat bread by behr 2. amazing gray by sherwin williams, 3. repose by sw 4. agreeable gray by sw 5. revere pewter by benjamin moore 6. dolphin fin by behr

For our house we need a warm gray. Some of these looked too blue/green. The second one was just too dark (although I do like the color). I think we are going to go with the first choice of wheat bread. I like that it's a little more greige and taupy. It flatters our carpet (blech I would love wood floors) and is gender neutral.

Our next project we have in the works is painting this dresser. I'm thinking of leaving the drawers as is with the natural wood and painting the rest white. Here is the dresser...

And here is the look I'm going for...

via Land of Nod
I like how the dresser looks a little modern. I love that we can recreate the look by just adding some white paint. The awesome thing about our dresser is that 1. it was free 2. it has a nook for a changing pad on top 3. It has a lid that can be closed when the twins are no longer in diapers. Winning! One piece of furniture that will last from babyhood to...? You can see the top of the dresser that slides over the changing pad area when needed.

For Blair's nursery we went all out. I wanted new everything. This time around I'm trying to be a bit more savvy and find ways to keep this nursery budget friendly (is that possible with twins?!). I just can't WAIT to find out the sex!

What do you think about my grays? Happy Wednesday!
