I decided to give you a peek into Blair's nursery, even though we're not quite finished with it yet. I based everything in the room off of her bumper (even though I know they can be a no-no). I have been eyeing that bedding for quite some time now! The only things I'm waiting for are to install her mobile that we made here above the crib and for her rug to come in the mail shown here. As far as actually sleeping in this room she has yet to do that (more on sleeping below).
got the letters off of etsy but you could totally DIY! |
crazy for choosing a white recliner? maybe. hence the green blanket... |

love the old fashioned clock |
we use this every night while nursing |
waiting to get a picture of B printed for the center of that frame |
so many books i have at work waiting to fill that bookshelf. the polka dot tote holds her toys |
she loves staring at the pattern on her bumper. :) |
So I was all amped because the first night we tried putting B in her co-sleeper she fussed from her first feeding to her second but every time after that she went to bed just fine. I thought this was ok because it was our first try. However the last two nights we have started spiraling downward. Now when we initially put her down around 10 or 11 (after her last feeding) she has a fit and cries till her next feeding at 1 or 2 am. I put her down and she will make it ten minutes and then cry. I let her cry for 2-3 minutes until she starts crying so hard that no sound is coming out ( this KILLS me) and then I pick her up and soothe her for about 5 minutes. Then I try the whole thing over again. So it's up and down every ten mintues for 2 hours. However again after her next feeding she goes down relatively smoothly the rest of the night after each feeding. I am baffled.
Love the nursery! It might be one of the best I've ever seen for a girl :)
ReplyDeleteHang in there lady, I know it will get better for you.

B's nursery is adorable. I love everything - but especially the chandelier, white furniture, and the rug! And she looks to teeny in her bed. Precious.
ReplyDeleteSorry, no baby advice here...but I hope that things get better! :)
Blair's nursery is so pretty! Love the chandelier!
ReplyDeleteThe bedding is adorable and totally ties in the whole nursery! I hope things get better soon...they just have to! She is such a little peanut in her crib!
ReplyDeleteWell Natalie, I thought I'd weigh in on the great sleep (or rather lack of sleep) challenge. If there's one thing I know now that I've had two newborns it is that they are all so different. Charlie Marie and Annalise are like night and day in so many ways, so take my thoughts with a grain of salt :)
ReplyDeleteThe thing that really got us on the right track with Charlie was the book, "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" by Marc Weisbluth. His sleep methods tie really well with Baby Wise but he addresses things from a more scientific stand point and has very concrete steps to take. This saved us with Charlie! And he addresses sleep issues up into the teen years...so it will be a valuable resource for a long time. Get it...you won't regret it :)
At Annie's one month visit the doctor told me that there is a magic weigh at which babies can (but not necessarily will) sleep through the night. She said until they reach between 11-13 lbs. their bodies can't store nutrients so they must eat every 3 hours or so. We totally noticed that once Annie put on some weight she went from poopy diapers almost every change to about two a day, which meant her body was retaining nutrients and, low and behold, she started sleeping through the night!
One last thought (for now), we had a lot of trouble getting Charlie to sleep when she was a new born and we found that she loved sleeping on our chest. Swaddled in the bassinet was a no go and, although she slept well in the swing we knew that sleeping while in motion was not the best for her. Soooo, we did the unthinkable and put her to sleep on her tummy. The result, a very happy baby who slept sooo much better! With Annalise we didn't even hesitate and put her on her tummy to sleep almost immediately. Same thing, snoozin' through the night. I hate to recommend tummy sleep because it is such a no-no but I will say that it has worked for us.
Hang in there Natalie! The sleep deprivation is terrible...no sugar coating it. I've had my share of crying tantrums at 3 am, just ask Nick. Keep us posted on how it's going and let us know if you have any questions. We're here for you!
Back in the "old days" of 22+ years ago they didn't have co-sleepers - boy does that make me feel old lol! I guess people just put the baby in a bassinet in the bedroom if they wanted to have baby in the same room... we always had our kids in their own crib and they were both born small so they did wake up every three hours or so for a feeding for quite awhile and I oh that was hard!
ReplyDeleteHer bedroom is so nice! I like the colors a lot.
Hi Natalie,
ReplyDeleteI've been a blog lurker for a while now, love your blog by the way, you are just adorable! Blair's nursery is beautiful! I'm writing now b/c I just want to give you some fellow mama support and encouragement. I have 2 babies, 22 months (a girl, Rowan) and 6 months (a boy, Beckett). They couldn't be more different in personality, but what they have in common is that they've both been troubled sleepers at first. I second the mom above who recommended "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child". I read it and Baby Wise and used a combination of the two, mixed with a little of WHATEVER WORKS :) Becoming a new mama is HARD, and lonely, and emotional! You're doing a wonderful job so far! This is what has worked best for my kids, but I will say both have been different. Rowan was born a month early and only weighed 5 lbs so she took MUCH longer to sleep train and sleep through the night. The first thing we did was begin a nighttime ritual and we did not variate from the ritual until we had it down GOOD! We started with bath, new diaper, massage, pj's, nurse, then in the crib they went. We started the routine every single night at 7:00 p.m. and baby was in bed no later than 8 p.m. Complete darkness in their bedroom, sound machine on LOUD on the rain setting. The sooner the routine begins, in our experience, the sooner the "good" sleep durations began. We put both of our kids in their cribs in their bedrooms very early on, with video monitors. In our experience we all got better sleep this way, b/c I would wake up at every single little sound they made and had trouble getting back to sleep. You will be still be waking up to feed them though, 8 p.m. is just the bedtime. She will likely still wake up 2-3 times to eat during the night until she weighs at least 12 lbs. That was the magic weight our doctor used for Rowan since she was tiny like Blair. :) And also, once you put her down at 8 p.m. (if you decide to try a nighttime routine), it will likely take a few nights before she realizes this is bedtime. A few rounds of crying, go in, shush her until she's quiet, leave the room may be necessary...and this is totally okay in my book :)
Sorry this has been such a novel, I just wanted to let you know I've been in your shoes and understand how difficult and wonderful it is at the same time. There's a group on facebook I'd love to add you to, it's called Mommywood and has been a LIFESAVER for me during these first few months of Beckett's life...I'm adding you now :)
Good luck!!!

Hi! Love Blair's nursery! Do you mind sharing where you purchased her bookshelf? Live the size.
ReplyDeleteWe got it at pottery barn kids. It was pretty reasonable!
