Yesterday M and I tackled a project that I saw done here (thank you Pinterest!). I have been mulling over different ideas for a mobile for Blair since I didn't like any of the ones I saw in the stores. One of my good friends showed me this one and poof! I had to make it. Well turns out it is A LOT harder than it looks. Such is life I guess. Enjoy!

crystals |
We bought the crystals at Michaels and only ended up using three strands.
wreath base |
We spray painted it white first because they come in forest green.
flower ribbon was found at JoAnns |
There is no way I could have done this project on my own. I would have ended up crying and throwing something for sure. The most difficult part was trying to get the wreath base level. Tying fishing line in equal lengths is a lot more difficult than you would think! I thought M was going to lose it. Plus, we wanted the knots to be secure so we could rest at ease that it's not going to fall into Blair's crib. Finally, M got it level and then it was relatively smooth sailing from there. Below are some minimal directions. Let me know if you want/need more detailed ones.
1. spray paint wreath base
2. using a small key ring (M got his out of his tackle box) tie three pieces of fishing line to it so they all meet at the top. Good luck making it level.
3. hot glue the ribbon to the wreath base
4. tie crystals onto the fishing line. we did some with three and some with two (24 total)
5 tie fishing line with crystals to the wreath base
6. step back and admire your work!
Total Cost: a little less than $40.00. Not bad considering it's exactly what I want and cheaper than most I've seen in stores. Now I can't wait till the furniture arrives so we can start to get serious about this nursery. Oh, and figuring out whether or not her nursery will be in our current home or at some new home would be nice too... hopefully we will have some news on that this week!
Super cute Natalie!! Love how simple and whimsical it looks! Perfect for a little girl's nursery! :)
ReplyDeleteIt turned out so cute! Can't wait to see it about her crib in person! :)
ReplyDeleteThis is adorable! Plus it's perfect to use as a mobile and it's something she can keep in her room throughout her childhood years since it's doesn't look too newborn-y! Great job!
ReplyDeleteLove this project!
ReplyDeleteThat is absolutely fantastic! Definitely going in my files for future nursery!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty, I had started something similar to this for Baylor, and didn't know how to hang it, I finsihed it up this weekend after seeing this post, such a good idea!
ReplyDeleteYour mobile looks great! I know what you mean about making it level... and I DID end up throwing it. I think you did much better than I did. :)
